The end is near for unsecure sites on browsers. Warnings signs are already appearing across all browsers when a web page is loaded over an insecure connection (HTTP), letting visitors know that if you enter sensitive information, it could be stolen by eavesdroppers and attackers.
Chrome announced that July 2018 was the final warning notice to secure site content (HTTPS) otherwise users will be penalised in their search engine ranking.
Firefox has been the first to block websites entirely if they do not have a secure and updated SSL Certificate. It is immanent that these changes will occur across all browsers very soon.
Why is this important?
Sites with a secure connection (HTTPS) demonstrates to visitors that any sensitive information will be kept safe. An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) Certificate secures the site and acts as a basic security point to make it difficult for hackers in intercept data.
Having an updated SSL Certificate is vital in order to build trust and credibility with the people engaging with your site, and lead them to finalise a purchase or provide any personal information.
